Merry Christmas Grandma Gunnie

Hey Grandma,
I haven’t wrote you in awhile, so I thought I would sit down and send a letter to heaven! I want to thank you for the beautiful doily you made me for Christmas. It was so comforting to have something to open from you & Grandpa again this year! I still feel your presence with us! I know heaven is pretty far away, but I’m almost certain that you flew down to see what all the Gunderman ruckus was about. The grandbabies are getting soo big. I know you would be so happy to hug and kiss them again, as they would you. I wish I could sit down and have a long conversation and just enjoy the sound of your voice at least one more time. However, mom got us these ornaments for Christmas, and I felt that you were near when I opened them. It was by far the best present of them all, (other than the doily you made). I plan on getting my doily matted and framed at Hobby Lobby just like you did Grandma Gangluff’s. Grandpa did really good today. He fell in love with you all over again when he received a picture of you from Danny and Jennifer. You are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I don’t know how anyone could look any more prettier, but I’m sure you are with your big wings and halo on! I can’t wait to see you again some day. :) I guess you knew Dellwyn was gonna propose to Alicia didn’t you? :) We saw it coming soon, but didn’t know it would be this soon! I wish you could be at Eric and Amy’s wedding as well as Alicia and Dellwyn’s just dancing and show casing that beautiful smile to everyone. I’m sure you already know everything, but we gave Mom a puppy for Christmas! Her name is Nala and she is so sweet. Even you would love her. Well, I won’t hold you up much longer because I know you prolly have many other letters to read, or have to go watch over some other special people. It’s so comforting knowing that I have a guardian angel I can talk to. I hope you, Grandma Gangluff, Tope, and all those others angels are having a Merry Christmas and a hell of a birthday party up there. Tell Jesus we said Happy Birthday! Btw Mom’s dressing was almost* just like yours. Thanks for helping her make that :) It was yummy. I will be talking to you again soon in my prayers. I just wanted to say hey and that I miss you oh so much. You were greatly missed today. You would have made person #46 in the Gunderman house. It gets bigger and bigger every year, but nobody could ever replace our Grandma Gunnie.
I love you, Grandma! Merry Christmas!

Blog #2 Grandma Gunnie :)

Grandma and Grandpa are/were the perfect example of raising a great family and always preaching that “A family that prays together, stays together”. It wouldn’t matter who stayed the night at their house, when it was bedtime, it was time to say a rosary together. Whoever was in the house. I miss those rosary’s with Grandma because her way of prayer was so unique. She always prayed so clear, but yet so fast. I guess she had to learn to talk/pray fast because when Grandpa was around she had to get her words in. Grandpa always tries to get his words in and ends up repeating exactly what Grandma had already said. When someone would call their house they have 2 sets of phones, (one in the kitchen and the other in the living room). When someone would call, Gpa would be in his recliner and Gma in the other room and when Grandma would answer, Gpa would silently pick up the other phone and listen in to the conversation going on. Funny, because when someone mentioned something that he would normally comment about, he’d forget he was on the other line (secretly) and throw in his imput while Grandma yells, “Ray, get off the phone.” haha..Gosh, I miss her voice so much. They were always making us laugh. Poor Grandpa is so lost without her. She did so much for him and for everyone. I hope one day I can at least be half the wife that she was to my Grandpa. She always stayed on him about his weight and what he could or couldn’t eat. While she was in the hospital, she would be laying there and he’d tell her goodbye to go home for the night with one of my aunts or uncles and everyone knew they were about to go take him out to eat somewhere. So Gma would say, “Ray you go straight home now” and he replied, “Ha, yeah right” and smiles and walked out. Then everyone in the room would laugh and shake their head. When he would return he’d come in and tell Gma that all he had was a salad, but Lord knows he must’ve had everything on the menu. I’m gonna miss those little quirks between those two. I love them so much! To be continued….Just wanted to share some of your stories, Gma. :) Love you!

Grandma Gunnie

Yesterday, we laid to rest our sweet & precious, Grandma Gunnie. She was one “hell of a woman” as her boys would say. She will be missed greatly, but more importantly never forgotten.

I remember when we were little…
Everyday after school, Me, Brandon, Bri, Hunter, Orry, Alex, and Maggie would all run to Gma’s after Elementary let out to see what she had waiting for us. Everyday, it was something different. Some days it would be, Wheat Thins with Peanut butter, other days it would be Apples and Carmel and or Peanut Butter, or even Crackers, cheese and serve-a-lot. Mmm. She was just so helpful in any way.

Later on in high school, she lived to wake up every morning to cook breakfast for us and enjoyed every minute of it. To her dying day, she said she wished she could cook us breakfast again just to start our day off right.

Gma was always one to think of others before herself. She never complained about anyone or anything. Well, I say anyone, but that brings me back to those terrible refs she always talked about. So that statement wasn’t all that true.

Mom said the whole time she was in the hospital, no matter how sick she would be, someone would quietly mention “one of the Grandkids’ names” and her eyes would open up real wide and she’d peep up to see what was being talked about.

One thing I learned from her is that family is THE most important people in your lives, so keep them around as long as possible and cherish each moment you spend with them.

Her last words to Brandon, Brianna, Hunter, and I were, “I love you. Y’all be good kids”

…and that’s just what we’ll do!
We love you Grandma! :)
